A graduate of Goldsmiths University, London, Michael Butterly has won numerous awards for his painting, added to which an RTS award winner for short non fictional filmmaking.
Using strong and expressive colours as well as a distinctive relief and the texture with the paint, Butterly creates dramatic impressions and scenarios. In this way, he transforms the canvas into a space in which he expresses his ideas about the society but also the artistic field between dreams and hope ; the art of Michael Butterly is a reflection of himself and a reaction to world around him.
Michael Butterly also revisits the "paranoiac-critical method", developed by Salvador Dali and Andre Breton in the early 1930s. He is interested in the rapport that can be established between art and science in the field of creative interpretation of human motives.
